Thoughts on Grief XXXIV

The Visit

In the still of night

tucked in bed

with only one dim

bedside light lit,

whilst reflecting on

conversations about

you

at dinner

I heard your

distinctive

footsteps

walking

down

the

hardwood

in

the

hall.

I looked

up

through tears

to see

a shadow

pass by

the doorway

to our

bedroom.

I said

“Hello my love”

and

you were

gone.

Thank you

for

visiting

I miss you

with

every

heartbeat
