“So it’s true, when all is said and done, grief is the price we pay for love.” – E.A. Bucchianeri

If it’s true

that this grief thing is

“the price we pay for love”

then I will gladly pay

that price

to remember the love

we shared.

I loved him and he loved me

with ferocity

because of or despite

his fifty shades of gray

he promised to care,

cherish, and take care of me-

he never wavered

from that promise

when love came calling

early in our relationship

we knew it was forever.

We traveled together

in sunshine, darkness,

health, pain,

joy, and sadness.

We slayed each other’s demons –

left over from the past.

His love and commitment

until the last breath

made me who I am today-

able to love,

open with feelings,

secure in myself,

and not afraid to face life

in his absence.

For all that and more

I will love him

and grieve

in one way or another

forever

because

“… grief is the price we pay for love.”
