birthday family friendship love

Friendship and Birthday Cake

“When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.” – Henri Nouwen

Let me just put it out there from

the start- no cake was eaten

Better Than Cake!

It was better than cake!

I would strongly recommend

a chocolate martini cake

unless, of course, one has an

aversion to such things then

stick to real cake!

But whichever choice is made

be sure to imbibe with a true

and loyal friend

a chosen sister

the kind who is there through

good and bad

babies and graduations

silence and celebration

mourning and dancing

The first person I call

in an emergency

– a friend like mine!

We can laugh loudly

and cry with each other

in the same conversation

we can sit silently

and not say a word

we can celebrate together

and have weird conversations

about rent a coffin liner

or just dumb stuff

or fifty shades of stupid

but the point is

everyone needs at least one

friendship like ours

no airs

no fears

just us

that’s love…

I love you my weird, wacky friend!

… and I know that it takes one to know one!
