Still trying to
wrap my mind around
the sights and sounds of yesterday’s
travels home from abroad.
Lines, lines, lines,
security checks, scans,
everything minus the cattle cars
and the unmentionable.
Questions:
Where did you come from?
Did you visit any other countries?
Perhaps I watched too many
documentaries with my Love
as he tried to process
losing half his family
in concentration camps,
but to see people placed in a room
(you go left, you go right)
literally herded, stuck there,
not knowing when they
would be able to travel onward
was horrifying.
They asked where we came from
as we walked by the open doors
from which they couldn’t exit.
Their distress was obvious.
It hurt my soul deeply.
I hope and pray they are all okay
and this is over soon…

Italy is in crisis. Everyone quarantined ordered to remain in their homes. Dead people’s bodies in China being left in the street to be picked up and disposed of. Trucks spraying sanitizer in the streets. Healthcare workers using garbage bags for body protection because supplies have dried up. Scary shit. Doctors crying because they have to decide who to treat and who will die because hospitals are over full and there are a lack of ventilators. Take this seriously people.
