286 A Simple Promise

“No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you”

Joshua 1:5

Isn’t that a beautiful promise?

quite simple

perhaps too good to be true

on first look

however

the same words are

repeated throughout the Bible

here

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Deuteronomy 31:6

here

The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Deuteronomy 31: 8

here

Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.

Revelation 3:10

The sovereign, triune God of the universe

promises that as a child

of God

I

will never

be left or forsaken

---

In addition

I am to be

strong

courageous

and am commanded

to endure patiently

---

I am not to be

afraid

discouraged

or

terrified

---

Sometimes it’s easy as a human

to listen to

the calamity mongerers

media hysteria

those who claim to fortell the end of the world

and

live in a state of fear

a constant tizzy of negativity

that will inhibit peace

and separate me from God

---

But there is one more

promise

that I remember

over and over

when fear rises up

as it does so frequently:

You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.

Isaiah 6:3

my hope is that anyone who reads this can find the peace that comes from trusting the promises of God

true

enduring

peace

that is beyond

human understanding
