I needed a new adventure
project
craft
whatever one might call it…
This not only filled a need
but also was an opportunity to learn
something new
So I researched, read, and researched some more
and we made soap!
There is more to making soap than meets the eye…
It’s all chemistry
New terms: Saponification; Curing, Super fat; Lye
mixing can be dangerous without following an exact order with safety precautions
hot vs cold process
decisions to make about recipes
many different oils with varying characteristics
essential oil vs fragrance
and differing opinions on all those variables to boot
Both Bill and I have sensitive skin
and have been trying to stay away from harsh chemicals to avoid breakouts
Have you read the ingredients in most soap lately?
Therefore, I set aside my fear of failure and decided to make it
We made plain soap last night
and will cut it this evening

This morning we made three more batches and will cut it tomorrow

These three should be ready to cut after work tomorrow
Fingers crossed that they all turn out okay – will keep you posted with the good and hopefully not bad or ugly!
I am thankful for my husband who mixed the lye solution, helped with the measuring, oil heating, temperature taking, color mixing, and washed all (and I mean all) the dishes.
Whenever I start a new project he’s always 100% behind me and for that I am grateful.
XO – Lisa ❤️
PS – I’m taking an introductory soap making class on Thursday, but just couldn’t wait…
Wow. You and Bill are true adventurers. I’ve seen video of people making soap, but I’ve never witnessed it in person.
