“I’ve a right to think,” said Alice sharply.
~ Lewis Carroll: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
“Just about as much right,” said the Duchess, “as pigs have to fly.”
Monday last week I lost my job in a five-minute sterile meeting due to a “reduction in force” – no other explanation was given.
I refuse to dwell on the past because although I loved the position, my loyalty to the company and its supposed values was obviously misplaced.
So the prayer repeating in my head is something like this:
“Thank you, God, for removing me from a situation that was not for my highest good and help me to discern your will in the days to come” Amen
Two days later, I received the flying pig planter from an amazing friend and former colleague via FedEx.
According to the tag, I can watch Peggy the Pig defy gravity anywhere I hang her.
Later I learned that it was ordered the week prior, but it arrived with perfect timing!
Always prone to self-critique, I am learning to look at the big picture and not resort to self-flagellation
The lessons of the flying pig hanging on twine from the tree branch in my front yard are
That nothing is impossible!
Including
Reevaluating priorities
Finding a new job at the experienced age of 62
Taking stock of skills
Pivoting
and
At times utilizing rope and hanging on to fly
… and that’s okay!
The next time self- doubt crawls into my mind, I will think of flying pigs, whisper a prayer, count my blessings, grab a rope, and go on to defy gravity!
XO Lisa ❤️
