“Birds are the eyes of Heaven.”
― Suzy Kassem
We decided not to put out bird feeders in the front yard this year…
Mainly to ward off the nocturnal raccoons and deer who loved to empty them. Not to mention the pesky skunks who stuck around till morning to terrorize Miss Roxie dog.
Every morning we found the jelly feeder and any others they could knock down on the ground, cleaned it up, and put it back in the tree.
Bill spent a great deal of time fashioning elaborate wiring systems to stay one step ahead of the critters.
However, (there’s always a however), yesterday afternoon,
We heard a Catbird!
If you’ve never heard the enchanting call of a catbird, you’ve missed one of the sweetest sounds of God’s creation.
The bird mews like a cat!
The scene at our house was nearly comical after we heard the elusive bird!
Into the garage I went to dig out the jelly feeder
cleaned it out
and retrieved the all natural grape jelly from the depths of the refrigerator
while Bill was placing the hook in the tree.
After the feeder was up we used the Audubon app to call, these birds get so excited and put on an aerobatics show in the sky to match no other…
The rest of the day we watched the pair eat from the feeder and sit in the tree guarding their food!
I haven’t been able to snap a picture yet, but soon…
As I type on our front porch and watch the bird primp itself on the wire 40 feet away, I imagine it’s waiting patiently for us to go inside so it can have breakfast.
Bill loaded up the jelly feeder this morning and put it back outside…
Old dogs really can learn new tricks!
