Question of the Day: Letting Go

I have found it necessary to let go of many people and things in my life.
“Letting go means to come to the realization that some people are a part of your history, but not a part of your destiny.”
― Steve Maraboli
Relationships that failed, for one reason or another.
People whose values did not align with mine.
Individuals who were just downright negative or vile.
“You will find that it is necessary to let things go; simply for the reason that they are heavy. So let them go, let go of them. I tie no weights to my ankles.”
― C. JoyBell C.
Situations that were not in my best interests.
I have lived many lives in this body. Reinvented myself over, and over, and over again.
I have let go many times and started over. Improved things I needed to improve. Let go of people and things I needed to let go of.
If people refuse to look at you in a new light and they can only see you for what you were, only see you for the mistakes you’ve made, if they don’t realize that you are not your mistakes, then they have to go.”
― Steve Maraboli, Life, the Truth, and Being Free
The weird thing is, that everyone changes at various times in their lifetime.
Some people know the me who existed in the past.
Others know the last 15 months me who has been working hard to heal.
Still others whom I have met recently, have only experienced the newest me.
The fun in the future will be when the new me who will not longer accept old patterns collides with those who think that I am still that old person who just rolled over and ignored hatred insults. They should consider themselves warned.
I will no longer spend time crying over those individuals.
They will no longer be worth time spent thinking about them.
No longer will they deserve a place on these pages, or for that matter, in my head.
“Once you realize you deserve a bright future, letting go of your dark past is the best choice you will ever make.”
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
I know of what I write about.
I have let go many times.
“There ain’t no way you can hold onto something that wants to go, you understand? You can only love what you got while you got it.”
― Kate DiCamillo, Because of Winn-Dixie
Moved away to shed the past, start a new life for my little family of three.
I did my best.
“It is important that we forgive ourselves for making mistakes. We need to learn from our errors and move on.”
― Steve Maraboli, Life, the Truth, and Being Free
But there was always an undercurrent of resentment that as much as I tried, I could not shake completely.
I felt unworthy to be loved.
“If you spend your time hoping someone will suffer the consequences for what they did to your heart, then you’re allowing them to hurt you a second time in your mind.”
― Shannon L. Alder
Until Larry, my love, taught me what true, unconditional love between a husband and wife was supposed to look like. And he proved it on a daily basis.
I do not want to relive my early adulthood, nor will I. It is gone.
“Renew, release, let go. Yesterday’s gone. There’s nothing you can do to bring it back. You can’t “should’ve” done something. You can only DO something. Renew yourself. Release that attachment. Today is a new day!”
― Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience
I release old attachments to move on with my life.
My bridges are burned- either dead or no longer in my orbit.
I am letting go of everything that I cannot control.
I will keep good memories and endeavor to never forget them.
“Let go of something old that no longer serves you in order to make room for something new.”
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
Here’s to the future!
Question of the Day:
Is there something that you need to let go of to make way for your new and improved life?
