My ‘littlest’ grandson is now six years old

Six

When I called him on the big day to wish him happy birthday

I asked him if he felt different,

he answered, “Oh yes!”

Somewhere in that gray world between preschool and sassy teenager

he is growing up fast

the changes are evident

and despite being all boy

his father’s mini-me

with love of all things

sports and gaming

bows and arrows

bikes, scooters

baseball and football

cars and trucks

and being outdoors

Mr. A has a sweet, pure, kind heart

that he gets mostly from his mama…

He loves his sissys, his pets, his grandparents, and everyone he meets…

While we have a set budget for birthday gifts, we try to get creative for the in-person parties.

This year Mr. A received a wallet with his cash gift.

It contained pictures of family in the sleeves

and a few laminated in the credit card slots that wouldn’t fit

As I prepped the photos, I relived past memories and thought lovingly about those who are no longer with us.

Grandma also made an ID with his cute picture on it.

When he opened the gift,

He was more excited about the pictures than the cash!

Grandma’s prayer is that as her sweet grandson grows up, his love for family will always come before money and his heart will remain pure and kind.

Awesome. Lisa, I enjoyed how your creativity honored your grandson. Indeed, our grandchildren seem to grow up too quickly. Our next to oldest Ohio grandson is graduating from high school this coming Saturday. Meanwhile in Montana, our youngest grandchild is navigating the next six months before he turns 3.
