Bill and I are on our way home
From a trip
to not so sunny Florida
for his Dad’s 90th birthday.
Left Thursday
and arrived late at night.
Shortly after Bill left for St. Marks to help with a relative’s brake job
emergency alerts were screaming repeatedly
Tornadoes were spotted in the Tallahassee area…
Holy crap!
Bill’s sister herded my claustrophobic self into her walk-in closet
of course we got dressed first
of course this old girl didn’t want to sit down in the nest of blankets and pillows…
but she did
and we waited until the storm passed
It’s a good thing we did!
The neighborhood had a lot of damage

Some major damage…
Bill drove right through the tornado
dodging downed trees, power lines, and flying debris
to have breakfast with his Dad and cousin before auto repairs commenced
(I don’t know if he saw any flying cows or not)…
Later on
he came back to town to help finish party shopping
we shared tornado stories,
looked for an open Whataburger (no luck)
surveyed some damage
and went back to St Marks to wish Dad H. a happy birthday
but not until the detour (read Bill’s choice of routes) around heavily tornado damaged Woodville took us down a muddy, cratered, dirt road that looked like quicksand would suck us down any second
Did I mention that lowest speed to avoid getting bogged down was around 30mph?
I married a daredevil!
Wow, what a day!
Then the party!

Bill’s sister planned a wonderful party with many family and friends in attendance!
After the formal party cleanup was over more family time ensued
Then back to Tallahassee we drove to the nearest Whataburger that had regained power
My daredevil husband was finally happy
Now today
after too little sleep
and breakfast at
guess where….

Ahhhh yes….
We are waiting to board the first leg of our two flight trip home.
Safe travels as you love on your mom!
Happy Mother’s Day to mine in heaven
