Moving Forward Peace Unapologetically Real

Unapologetically Real 5

Question of the Day:

Staying in the present moment… harder than it looks.

“Find the perfection in every moment instead of trying to make every moment perfect.”

― Donnalynn Civello

My overthinking mind always wants to think ahead.

I have to consistently reign it in.

Keep it from traveling down rabbit holes –

shouting “Squirrel!” then running roughshod over the topic at hand

going off on tangents

traveling hither and yon

being interrupted by random thoughts.

Okay, back to the topic:

Staying in the present moment.

Obviously, I need tips.

“when you are torn
between begrudging
your past
and hoping for
your future
a small voice says
to you
“i am here.”

~ the present.
don’t let her slip away.”
― أنجي

When I find myself recalling unpleasant memories from the past, I pause to bring myself forward to the present.

Doing so helps me recognize that I am not defined by things that happened long ago.

I have experienced growth and healing.

I am no longer that person.

When I find myself looking toward the future (with or without worry), I pause to bring myself back to the present.

Doing so helps me realize that no matter what plans I make, or hopes for the future I may entertain, I am not in control.

The world could blow up tomorrow and all would be for naught.

“A life lived in the present is a life well lived.”

Ari Gunzburg, The Little Book of Greatness: A Parable About Unlocking Your Destiny

So why not pause more often to live in the present?

To be present?

I am most happy when I live in the present moment.

Calm.

Peaceful.

Powerful!

I want to be calm, peaceful, powerful, and present, every moment of every day.

“Welcome the present moment as if you had invited it. It is all we ever have so we might as well work with it rather than struggling against it. We might as well make it our friend and teacher rather than our enemy.”

― Pema Chödrön

  1. Lisa, great post, thank you for sharing. Also thank you for the quote! Don’t tell anyone (shhhh! between you, me and the internet) but this is the first time I’ve seen my work quoted on sites other than Goodreads 🙂 so I’m grateful that you found meaning in my words and saw fit to include it in your post. Thank you!!
