Detour: Road Closed Ahead

“Perhaps the old man had chosen to look up through—or at least around—his problems while still smiling, knowing that a detour didn’t have to alter the destination, it merely changed the path.”
― Kathy Harris, The Road to Mercy

We have all felt as though our roads ahead have been closed, our detours long, and our cars have broken down or run out of gas along the way.

Rona is one of those detours in my life.

I am not going to elaborate, because anyone who is reading this has their own examples of why.

The reason for the detour matters not.

What matters instead is what we do with our own personal detour through this thing called Rona and our life in general.

Detours can provide learning experiences:

The chance to take a road never traveled.

The chance to relax.

The opportunity to find new ways to communicate with loved ones.

The venerability to allow examination of feelings.

Perhaps learn more about ourselves.

The freedom to learn and grow.

The space to seek enlightenment.

Find occasions to practice gratitude.

The time to finally heal.

There are many positives about a detour that requires solitude.

Therefore, the questions are truly:

“How will I use this detour to my advantage?”

“How can I make the most of this detour to help myself grow?”

“How will I utilize this detour to drive healing forward?”

“How will I accept this detour as a gift?”

“In the last analysis, most of our difficulties come from losing contact with our instincts, with the age-old forgotten wisdom stored up in us.”
― Carl Jung

I will capitalize on this detour as a way to improve myself,

always moving forward, no matter the obstacle!

  3. Lisa, I appreciate how you use the analogy of a road closed as we take the necessary detours in our own lives during these challenging days sailing in this Covid storm. Each of us to keep sailing through the stormy seas, even if we cannot dock at our favorite restaurant, see family, and deal with our own unique circumstances. God’s peace!
